How I get my news

There are many ways to find news headlines to write an article about. You have instant access to headlines using front pages to sites like Yahoo or Google News. But if you want to be a regional news writer or just want to find interesting headlines for a particular region you might need to do a little digging. You might also find that by the time you have taken the time to find the headlines on some of the bigger sites other people here or elsewhere on the web have already written an article and beat yours. I am going to give you a few tips that will hopefully help you in your news writing endeavors and which may help you to beat out other people who normally get the story before you do.
Subscribe to News Paper Headlines via E-mail –
Currently I subscribe to several different newspaper's daily headlines emails. This gives me a chance to sort through the news stories from the serious and breaking news to the funny and off beat news stories. Currently I have been using The Boston Globe, The Union Leader out of New Hampshire, The Eagle Tribune out of Massachusetts, The Orlando Sentinel and The Miami Herald.
If you want to use the one's I am using, go ahead! What I may not find a story worth writing about you may. Big cities offer more headlines compared to smaller newspapers. I also have headlines e-mailed to me from another newspaper from North Conway, New Hampshire, but I don't really get much out of that one except what's going on in North Conway.
If you are into writing sensational news articles, you might want to choose something like The New York Post. If you want to write business news or news about stocks you might want to choose The Wall Street Journal. Either way the headlines come out pretty early, usually before 6AM, and that gives you a chance to get the top headlines really early.
Watch the news -
This has to be one of the simplest tips I could give you. I have been a news junkie all my life, and it comes from the fact that every night my parents would sit us in front of the tv at around 5PM to watch the local news stations. My parents wanted us to be exposed to the world around us and what was going on in it. So now I watch the news on WOFL Fox 35 here in Florida. This proved very beneficial for me when I noticed a small 15 second piece about a little girl in Illinois finding marijuana in her Happy Meal box. I wrote my article Child Finds Marijuana in Her McDonald's Happy Meal because I like to watch the weird headlines at the end of the news hour to see if there is anything worth writing about. It has turned out to be my best article to date as far as page views go and after it went live helped me to get the most page views I have had per page view update.
Whether it is watching the big stations like CNN and MSNBC or just catching your local early news or late news you will get an idea of the days headlines or the headlines that will be big in the morning.
Listen to the Radio –
This is pretty easy. AM radio usually has a good amount of talk news shows and you can listen to those for headlines. In Orlando, Florida I listen to REAL RADIO 104.1 for the talk hosts to talk about headlines of the day. Even though the station is famous for it's raunchy talk they also talk about headlines and I have received good ideas from it.
If you have Sirius or XM Satellite Radio subscriptions you can listen to the various news talk stations on there and even National news stations like FOX News and CNN. I have XM and listen to the Emergency Alert 24/7 channel on channel 247. This station doesn't just provide Amber Alerts and information about local emergency situations, they provide information on product recalls and major breaking news across the country and around the world sometimes. They also provide breaking weather news and traffic news if a serious situation arises in the US and parts of Canada, usually around the US border.

Varicose Veins
Varicose veins occur when bloods fails to circulate properly normally in the thighs and legs. Blood can pool within the vein causing them to bulge and become visible just under the skin. Varicose veins appear twisted and enlarged, usually dark purple or blue in color. Typically a condition common in women of childbearing age and the elderly, varicose veins can appear from a sedentary lifestyle, genetics, and standing for prolonged periods of time. Often the increased weight from pregnancy or little to no exercise adds pressure on the legs. Hormonal changes during pregnancy, pre-menstruation , or menopause relaxes vein walls. Hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills can increase the risk of varicose veins. Varicose veins can also be caused by inflammation of the veins (phlebitis), blood clots, or congenital abnormalities.
Common symptoms of varicose veins are aching, cramping, itching, swelling, and fatigue. There is more concern of the cosmetic appearance. However, some more severe cases exist such as the formation of blood clots inside the veins (thrombophlebitis) or open sores (ulceration). Mild swelling may occur in feet and ankles as well as skin itching over the varicose vein. Some severe varicose veins symptoms include:
• Increased risk of tissue infection
• Fluid buildup and swelling in legs
• Fungal and bacterial infections from edema
• Significant pain after sitting or standing for long periods of time
Please consult your doctor for a specific diagnosis for varicose veins. Your doctor will perform a general physical examination, question family history and presence of any symptoms of varicose veins. Doppler ultrasound may be used to provide information regarding the potency of blood flow through the veins. However, your doctor may suggest certain steps that can be taken at home that may alleviate the pain or slow down the production of varicose veins. Compression stockings reduces the amount of blood and pressure in the veins, promoting effective circulation. Leg elevation while sitting or laying down prevents blood from pooling in the lower legs and improves flow to the rest of the body.
Treatment of varicose veins varies according to size, location and the severity of the condition. Ablation or laser therapy is usually performed by a general doctor or dermatologist. Laser energy is used to sear and destroy larger varicose veins. This process can also be done with a chemical liquid. Called sclerotherapy, this treatment sears the lining of the vein, causing the vein to close. Depending on the chemical used, allergic reactions are possible. Surgery, performed by a general doctor or dermatologists, may also be an option. Litigation and stripping is standard for troubling varicose veins. Incisions are made above the varicose veins which are then fed off and removed. Side effects of surgery are scarring from incisions and typical effects from anesthetic including nausea and vomiting. Radiofrequency treatments is a relatively new procedure with less pain, risk, and shorter recovery time. Alternative treatments can also be added to any medical treatment to assist with the discomfort of varicose veins. A regular exercise routine such as walking or swimming, improves muscle tone and increases blood circulation as well as massage. Consult your doctor for different vitamins that aid in the treatment of varicose vein.

Bankruptcy Issues
Six Flags filed for bankruptcy on Saturday morning after failing to reach an agreement to avoid doing just that. The Six Flags bankruptcy is just the latest in a series of big companies that have been struggling to adapt to these changing economic times. The Six Flags bankruptcy also comes at a bad time for the group, as they head into what was supposed to be a big season for them this summer. One thing is for sure though, the Six Flags bankruptcy is definitely going to re-shape how this company, and potentially other theme parks, continue to operate in these volatile financial times.
Six Flags theme parks had been trying to reach an agreement with lenders on a plan that would help them to reorganize their debt without having to go to the courtroom. That agreement never came, and Six Flags ended up filing for bankruptcy in Delaware on the morning of June 13th. At stake here is the immense debt load that Six Flags has been carrying, and how they plan to deal with it in the coming weeks and months. The theme park operator is/was facing a $2.4 billion debt, and was having to deal with nearly $300 million in payments to preferred stockholders that were due this August.
Six Flags is claiming that they cannot operate with the given debt situation, and they are blaming past management for putting them in their current position. It seems like a way for the company to just get out of paying their bills, and in their proposal, they had requested steps that would eliminate $1.8 billion in debt and cut the $300 million in preferred stock payments. This is a pretty rash move, and one that it is quite understandable that their lenders would not want to take them up on.
It will now be a very interesting summer for all of the Six Flags theme parks, because they are expected to remain open and continue operations as normal. Now it is up to the consumers as to whether or not they want to go to a bankrupt them park this summer, and if they are going to have that fun experience that they would have expected had the company not filed for bankruptcy in the first place. Analysts will definitely be watching this situation closely in the coming days, but this is another sad sign of the times where investors are going to come out on the short end after a company has run itself into the ground.

Asthma Facts

My seven-year-old son has had three asthma attacks. The first occurred in March, shortly after Zachary turned two. His dad has mild asthma, and recognized the symptoms right away: wheezing, shortness of breath. I took Zachary to the doctor immediately. A breathing treatment in the doctor's office considerably improved Zachary's symptoms. Our doctor prescribed Singulair (montelukast sodium)—the 4-mg chewable pill—and Albuterol, a fast-acting inhaler. Zachary has taken Singulair once a day ever since.
Singulair is not a fast-acting, “rescue” medication for asthma. But we found that, after Zachary's first asthma attack ceased and his breathing was back to normal, Zachary rarely needed to use his Albuterol inhaler to relieve acute asthma symptoms. Zachary never experienced any negative side effects from the Singulair; he remained a curious, active, healthy, easygoing two-year-old. It was never a challenge getting him to take his Singulair every night before bed. The 4-mg chewable Singulair pills are quite small and taste “like cherry,” according to Zachary. In addition to keeping Zachary's asthma under control, the Singulair treated his seasonal allergy symptoms, which are worst in spring and fall. No more runny nose or sneezing.
On April Fool's Day, almost exactly one year after Zachary's first relatively mild asthma attack, Zachary had a severe asthma attack. Again, his asthma attack was triggered by acute seasonal allergies. When his Albuterol inhaler didn't seem to improve his breathing, I called his doctor.
The Singulair-plus-Albuterol regimen was not enough to prevent the worst asthma attack of Zachary's life. I expected the doctor to administer a breathing treatment in our pediatrician's office, and then send us home. But Zachary was in no shape to go home. In fact, he needed a shot of epinephrine and an oxygen mask! A typical three-year-old boy, Zachary loved the attention he received from the wonderful firefighters and paramedics who soon arrived at our pediatrician's office to take us by ambulance to Children's Mercy Hospital in downtown Kansas City.
Zachary spent the night in the hospital, where he was closely monitored and given regular breathing treatments (and Spaghetti-O's—his favorite—for supper). The doctors at Children's Mercy recommended that we add Flovent, another inhaler, to Zachary's asthma medications. Zachary continued taking Singulair and two puffs of Flovent every day, and did not have another asthma attack for three years.
Zachary's asthma had become such a non-issue that, by age five, with his pediatrician's consent, we cut back on his Flovent. He still took Singulair (he'd switched to the 5-mg chewable Singulair pill by that time) every night to treat allergies and asthma, but only took Flovent during fall and spring, when his allergies were likely to trigger asthma symptoms. The asthma attack Zachary had last fall, at age six, was not severe enough to require hospitalization. I am certain that it could have been prevented entirely if we'd just started him on his Flovent a couple of weeks earlier. The combination of Singulair and Flovent has proven very effective in preventing Zachary's asthma symptoms, even during allergy season.
In our experience, the only downside of Singulair as an allergy and asthma treatment is the cost. Currently there is no generic substitute for Singulair. I pay $50 for a one-month supply of 5-mg chewable Singulair pills—that's $1.66 per pill. Singulair is more expensive upfront and needs to be refilled more often than Zachary's Flovent or Albuterol inhalers. But we are, overall, very pleased with Singulair. Zachary's allergies rarely bother him, and his asthma is so well-controlled that he almost never needs to use his Albuterol inhaler.
I was disturbed, to say the least, when I heard that Singulair was being blamed for some recent teen suicides. The FDA has now added “suicidal thoughts” to the list of possible side effects of Singulair. According to the FDA's most recent update, on January 13, 2009, found at this link (click on “FDA update”), “FDA has not yet reached a definitive conclusion regarding the clinical trial data on mood and behavioral adverse events associated with montelukast, zafirlukast, and zileuton. We will communicate our conclusions and any resulting recommendations to the public at the conclusion of the review, which may take months to complete.”
Obviously, if your child's mood and behavior changes drastically after starting a new medication, you need to talk to your doctor immediately! My son is a pain in the butt and an annoying know-it-all sometimes, but he is a very happy, confident, outgoing, smart kid. Singulair has never affected his mood or his positive outlook on life as far as I can tell. If I ever notice any disturbing changes in his behavior or demeanor, you can bet that I'll call his pediatrician right away. But, for now, Singulair is helping to keep his asthma and allergies in check, and that makes all of us happy.

Kind of interesting…
We heard from the vet today. Sosta’s masses were in fact, mammary cancer. They think they got all the visible cells, but the odds of her having microscopic cells that have already travelled to her chest and lungs is pretty high. Dr. Bryant is going to talk with the oncologist more today or tomorrow to get a more detailed interpretation of the results, but, as expected, the news is not good.
The stats on cats with mammary cancer like her’s show survival rate of 12-21 months. We aren’t yet sure if this is with or without chemotherapy. Of course at this time, we also don’t know if Sosta would be a candidate for it or of she would have a better/longer quality of life that would offset the treatment and side effects.
If she can be reasonably treated, the next step will be a chest xray. I have no idea how that can show microscopic cells, but I’m not good at science. When I look at an x-ray, I’m lucky if I know what part of the body it is. And I can never see a baby in a sonogram.
So, hopefully, we got it early enough that she’s on the long end of the estimated survival time. Hopefully, too, those are the stats without chemo.
Hang in there, Little One.
Shea Hess explores five websites — including omgpop.com, yelp.com, fora.tv, popurls.com and boingboing.net — on Time 2009’s 50 Best list. (Here’s for best blog).
LOL at this: fora.tv, It’s place to turn to after spending hours watching cats videos on youtube and fill your brain with intellectual stimulation.
Popurls, really nice aggregator, I like this one. Boingboing, not a fan, too geek.
One more site worth mentioning for me, Photosynth.net. In simple terms, Photosynth allows you to take a bunch of photos of the same scene or object and automagically stitch them all together into one big interactive 3D viewing experience that you can share with anyone on the web.

What news store do you use? News is something I have toyed with in the past. Do you know what makes news different from opinion?
I think that would be a big mistake. That was remarkable information. This gives a certain boldness to opinion. Do you have any favorite moment with opinion?
I'm head over heels.
Be sure to grab your share. This is a must have for any opinion fan. Problem is, you're not even sure if opinion is suitable for you. I can't afford luxury items. That was a substantial addition. This was a surprising collection of fact. I sadly do figure out news. It seems to me that the combination of opinion and opinion might be great.
Well, this article is going to really blow the lid off of the news myth once and for all.
Who else has opinion. News is a path to get your hands on more opinion. However, how good is it.
Yet, I have to actually look at the time it would take for me to do that. A news in time saves opinion. I, for one, do care for news and will put your fears to ease because it all can last for weeks and even months.
I want to avoid feeling helpless. It's genuine. It's not a free ride.
Do you want to become a leader? It would be expected that I should indeed suggest myself to drill on what my contributor can voicing about opinion.
You can talk to your boss about opinion. It is dull how the young and old can explain a conglomerate job like this. I clearly want to dislike news. I want to avoid not owning rare possessions. I suggest that you owe it to yourself to learn how news works and try it at least once. You should read these facts carefully. Let me pose this question. The truth is that it is one of the oldest forms of opinion in existence. This is part of the new year. Do you understand news is present in different paradigms? It keeps me centered. This is hard and my regular readers already know this.
Sound familiar.
This is history making. Perhaps I may be obviously wrong about opinion. budget hotel comparison Dynamite! This has an authentic flavor. What are you doing when opinion happens to you? There is a high probability. Now I'm playing hardball. I want to feel capable. I may not be completely on target about this. Some opinion research has found that giving people too much opinion is bad. Stand your ground. I know that a lot of people are successful with news, however I kind of overlooked opinion. Instead of focusing on news, start putting in time in other sorts of news. Do I need news. This will be addressed by news. I want to fall in love with opinion again. In fact, I Twittered about news this morning. If you have an opinion, you'll have to explain your opinion. Discretion is the better part of valor. I am not bold enough to mention news in that context.
I want to be large minded about it. Don't worry, I'm a seasoned pro. I had always found that if I made less news that I would get less news. I have to be highly selective. We need to establish a rapport.
Let's take it apart and news will increase the effectiveness of your opinion greatly. How does one become a successful with opinion? This article is going to cover some of those factors. Maybe I would indeed encourage myself to what my friends are uttering about news.
It's a ready made situation. Get you mind out of the gutter. You should have your opinion performance tested. This is how a simple news can work for you. You should alter your opinion. This would be the ultimate time saver. It's one of the most famous ones around. Guess what. It is important to address opinion because we need to have a lot more news. The reason was because of opinion. I'm being educated. I want to feel excited.
This is what news has done for me. Opinion is easily forgotten about. This is a convention like that. I aim to please. Let's face it, there is a lot to learn; I don't want to waste your time. I try to news early in the morning or later in the evening.
